Car Seat SafetyGuidelines & Laws
www.BuckleUpNC.org

  • Never place your baby's safety seat in the front seat of a vehicle with a passenger air bag.
  • Switch to a forward-facing safety seat when your toddler is 1yr of age AND weighs at least 20 pounds (9 kg). Move the harness straps to the upper slots and install it in the back seat.
  • Once your child reaches 40lbs., they may move to an over the shoulder booster seat.   They will remain in a booster seat until they are eight years of age OR 80 lbs. whichever comes first.

Internet Safety
www.safetynet.aap.org

For the most part, the Internet is a rewarding place for both kids and teens, but the potential risks to their privacy and personal safety are real. Look to links and resources for information from the AAP and other organizations that specialize in keeping children and adolescents safer online.

Summer Safety

  • Empty buckets, tubs, or small pools immediately after use.
  • Be sure that swimming pools have a four-sided fence with a self-latching gate.
  • Supervise your toddler constantly whenever she is near water (bathtub, playpool, buckets, toilet).
  • Participate in physical activities as a family (e.g., taking walks, playing at a playground). Limit television and video viewing to 1 hour per day.
  • Limit time spent in the sun. Use a broad-brimmed hat to shade her ears, nose, and lips.
  • Once your child is 6months of age, you may use sunscreen (SPF 15 or higher) on your toddler before he/she goes outside.
  • Keep your toddler away from moving machinery, lawn mowers, overhead garage doors, driveways, and streets.
  • Be sure that your toddler wears a helmet when riding in a seat on an adult's bicycle. Wear a helmet yourself.
  • Teach your toddler to use caution when approaching dogs.
